Hanna
Bruce Bears and Teddy Hospital is certainly a labor of love for Hanna
Hach, pictured here with her childhood stuffed bear - Abiner. This
beloved teddy travels with Hanna everywhere she goes and her love for
him inspired her to start a teddy hospital.
You can treat your furry friend to a special
day at her bear spa on Main Street in Lititz, PA. Be certain to call
for an appointment, the ‘doctor' will probably be in; but she is very
busy. She has patients from all over the world and some make an annual
visit just to be stuffed, fluffed and cleaned. Hanna's specialty is her
miracle makeovers for stuffed animals that have been loved to pieces,
run over by lawnmowers or attacked by the family dog.
Hanna takes before and after photographs of her
incoming patients, conducts a full examination in the triage area to
determine the degree of care needed and writes up a formal estimate for
the owner. Once the estimate is approved, |

the animal is admitted to pre-op where it awaits surgery.
Every patient is fitted with an id bracelet (just like humans) and
discharge papers are prepared when recovery is complete and it is time
to go home. Dr. Hanna can treat other fuzzy things, from dogs to
rabbits, mice, frogs, pelicans, alligators, kittens and monkeys. She
has proudly worked on stuffed animals made by Steiff, Gund,
Merrythought, Ganz, Hermann, Helvetic, Knickerbocker, Chiltern, Chad
Valley & J.K. Farnell to name a few. She is quick to point out that
she does not work on dolls.
For the past four years, Hanna has made teddy
bears for the graduating senior girls in the Warwick Soccer
Association. Each bear is personalized with the girl's name and the
team reference is added as well. A similar type of bear was handcrafted
for her brother's military unit - the unit patch is added to the bear's
new look. She hopes to branch into other sports teams and specialties.
She somehow finds time to participate in
activities of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, the Lititz Retailers
Association and Lititz Women in Business. In providing destination
information for her out of town clients she is constantly gathering
lodging, dining and entertainment brochures of things to do in her
newly adopted Lancaster County home. |

In
1999, Hanna quit her full time job as a
computer repair technician and dedicated herself to become a full time
teddy doctor. She recently relocated her business to Lititz and lives
near her older brother. He helped to locate the teddy hospital for her
and she signed a lease - sight unseen. She employs a part time
assistant to help with patient appointments and is thinking of setting
up a teddy adoption link on her Web site. The secret to her success? "I
treat every stuffed animal as though it were my own."
The hospital is located at 120 E. Main Street,
Lititz. Hospital hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
and appointments are urged. Call Hanna at 626.1180 or on the toll free
