Dr. Hanna's patients come in all shapes, sizes, ages, colors and ...stuffing?  Hanna Hach isn't any ordinary doctor---she's a Teddy Doctor. Her hospital not only treats teddy bears, but also many other types of stuffed animals.  From dogs and bunny rabbits to pelicans and alligators.  Hach has treated just about every ailment a stuffed animal could have.  Her patients have suffered from fur loss, joint problems and cataracts, to more serious injuries such as lawn mower accidents, dog maulings and burns.  Others just need some TLC with a new stuff and fluff treatment.

In 1997, Hach began making her own line of Hanna Bruce custom designed bears.  It was this venture that inspired her to open a Teddy Hospital.  Friends would come to her with their cherished teddies or animals and ask her if she could mend an ear or a nose.  Hach quickly realized there were a lot of stuffed animals out there in need of care and preservation.  In 1999, Hach quit her full time job as a computer repair technician and became a full-time Teddy Doctor.  "My job is so much more rewarding now." says Hach.  "I just love knowing that my work brings smiles to peoples faces all over the world."  And it really does---Hach has had patients from Canada, Europe, Japan and almost 50 U.S. states.

There's rarely a teddy that Dr. Hanna can't make better.  "I had one lady who had her teddy for over 30 years when her dogs got a hold of it and used it to play tug of war.  When it came to me it was completely shredded," recalls Hach.  "The bear spent a little time in surgery each day until it was all better.  The woman called me crying over how wonderful it looked."

While Hach does her best to have the bears looking as good as new, she reminds people of her philosophy: "teddies with scars are loved just as much as ones without."

Recently Hach relocated her full service Teddy Hospital from Ohio to Lititz, Lancaster County.  Here, Hach performs an examination of the patient and writes up a formal estimate.  Once the estimate is approved, the stuffed animal is put into pre-op where it awaits surgery.  After surgery, each bear receives a hospital bracelet and discharge papers.  Hach's best friend from high school, Cheryl Vernon, handles all of her appointments and schedules surgeries from her home in California.

Hach's practice has been so well received that she's even thinking of setting up a teddy adoption link on her Web site in 2004.  The secret to her success? "I treat every stuffed animal as though it were my own," says Hach.  I'm sure Abiner ---Hach's teddy bear since childhood who travels everywhere with her--will attest to that!
